About
Carcassing has many applications but depends upon the strength classification which is determined during the grading process. Typical applications are framing, studwork, indoor and outdoor joists and roofing.
Â
Grading.
Raw material can be visually or mechanically graded to several strengths depending upon the requirement; C16 and C24 are the most common. The ‘C’ means that the material is likely to be pine, spruce or fir summarised as a coniferous species. The number determines how strong the material is. The higher the number the higher the bend strength. For example C24 has a strength class of 24 Newtons per square millimetre.
Â
